Mike wondered if maybe he should have noticed. Was it really that obvious. "No...I mean Julianna said she liked me, but I really didnt think anything of it" He said, thinking it was cute that Gabby had a crush on him (and helping to boost his confidence especially around this woman he was suddenly gaining interest in).

She continued to smile. "I guess you can't blame her." She paused, realizing that her comment could have been interpreted in two ways. "I mean...she's young...crushes like that develop." Although she did in fact mean it in the other way as well, she wasn't going to say anything just in case it would make him feel uncomfortable. Once again, being in an elevator...there was no where else to go.

Mike smiled again at her comment, a bit surprised by it, wondering if she meant what he thought/hoped she did. When she clarified it though he figured she probably had no interest in him.
"Thank you" He said figuring no matter how she meant it, it was still somewhat of a compliment. "I guess they do...she'll probably like someone else next week, young girls change their minds a lot"

"You're welcome," Natalie said in response to his gratitude. Should she had said that she meant it both ways? Maybe that way she would have found out if he was at all intererested...well, it was a little late now. She couldn't go back and correct herself without making herself look like a complete fool.
"You never know...she seems to be quite attached to you, so it might take a while for her crush to wear off, if it ever does."

Mike laughed as she said that it mgiht never wear off. He could barely imagine a girl her age having a crush on him at all, much less it lasting. "Should I be worried?" he asked, half joking half serious. He began wondering if maybe by being so nice to Gabby he had unconciously encouraged it. He hoped she'd find someone nice her own age, but he had to admit it was a good boost to his self confidence to learn about.

She laughed as he asked if he should be concerned. "I don't think so; she's harmless." She was actually a very sweet girl, and if anything, this whole thing was adorable. "If anything, I think it would be flattering," she said with a small chuckle. "Who wouldn't want someone to be crazy about them?" She added, saying it in a different way so that perhaps it would sound more flattering.

"It is very flattering" Mike said with a smile "Especially considering the other male doctors she's probably seen in this hospital" He had never seen himself as in the same league as others, but this was certainly a good ego boost.
When she asked about who wouldnt want someone crazy about them he laughed. "It is nice, now if I can only find a woman more my age who thinks like her" As soon as the words left his mouth he was shocked. Did he really say that? Why would he say something like that to a woman he had just met and who he was already starting to develop some interest in. Surely now she'd see him as some loser who couldnt get a girl. But it was too late to take it back.

"Yeah, we have been fortunate in that way," she said when he said that it was flattering considering the other male doctors. Wow. She had no idea what she was trying to say by making that comment, but she instantly regretted it, as she felt it made her sound like someone who just stared at guys all day. His comment then almost caused her to say something, but she held herself back. It was going to look far too odd if she was to say it, so she just smiled, thinking of something else to say in its stead.
"Yeah...it would be. I mean, not that you couldn't..because I'm sure there are women out there who are...but sometimes its hard to find the right person..." She looked up at the level buttons, in pure disbelief that she was saying these things. Could she have humiliated herself any more? She should probably just stop talking. Her not so subtle attempt to find out whether he was seeing anyone, as well as it meaning to encourage him made her wish she could throw herself out of a window right now.

Natalie's first comment made Mike wonder if maybe she had already found some good looking doctor at the hospital. It made sense that she would already be in a relationship. She was beautiful and was nice and easy to talk to, who wouldnt want to date her. He wondered which of the doctors she was involved with. Whoever it was, he hoped they realized how lucky they were.
"Finding the right person is hard...harder than being a doctor I think sometimes" Mike told her.

"I agree," she replied. She wondered if that meant he hadn't found the right person yet...if in fact he was looking. "Its hard to focus on ones personal life, and work life at the same time." Truth was, she didn't want to focus on her family life. She had used work as a convenient way to distance herself from her family, but she would much rather start one of her own. And would put them first.

"How do you manage to do it?" Mike asked her curiously. He then realized that maybe it was too personal of a question to ask. Maybe the reason she said it was hard to focus on both was because she was having difficulties balancing the two. "I'm sorry, you dont have to answer that, you barely even know me, I shouldnt have asked such a personal question"

"Its okay, really," she assured as he quickly apologized for asking the question. If he hadn't asked it, she probably would have at some point...even though they just met. "Although, I wish I too knew the answer to that question...but unfortunately, I don't." She knew now that there was no point asking him, because he was obviously in the same situation she was. Well, probably not exactly the same, but they both seemed to be searching for the same answer.

Mike was relieved to hear that she hadn't been offended by his question or that she hadnt found it too intrusive. But as she answered he suddenly wished his question had been more specific, since he still didnt know if she was seeing anyone. Maybe she was and just was having difficulties balancing the relationship and work, or maybe she was still single. Even if she was , it didnt mean that he, a guy she was spending only an elevator ride with, actually had a chance with her.
"Looks like we're in the same situation then. I'm hoping someday I'll be able to figure out how to do it"

Did that mean he didn't have anyone? Or was he just saying that he hoped he'd figure out. "Yeah...me too. I guess I'll worry about it when the time comes. For now, I'm fine with concentrating on my work." Fine was certainly a good way of putting it. She loved her job, without a doubt, but she wished she had more time for other things. It was funny really...because of her job, she was restricted to seldom having any strict time, but at the same time, she used her job as a distraction to remind her of that.

Concentrating on her work? What did that mean? Was that meaning she didnt have anyone? Maybe she didnt want to be seeing anyone? She just wanted to focus on work? Or did she have a relationship that was maybe suffering because of her focus.
"Concentrating on work is probably the smart thing to do, but focusing on work can make going home alone at the end of a shift any less lonely" Mike said, hoping with his own admission he'd be able to get her to clear up whether or not she had someone waiting for her at home. "I guess I just need to try to find someone who understands the amount of time work takes up"
