Dr. Crane walked out into the waiting area of Seattle Grace after spending the last 2 hours in the room with a woman in labor as the woman debated whether she wanted an epidural or to have natural childbirth (Screaming in Mike's ear and pulling at his arm with every contraction). He was a bit tired by this point and needed something to give him energy. Mike walked over to the vending machines, looking through his choices of sugared foods and caffeinated fizzy beverages. Not the healthiest choices to be promoting in a hospital but right now he didnt care as he pressed a few buttons to get a Snickers and a Coke. Dropping the candybar into his white labcoat for later, he popped open the can, taking a sip as he turned around.

Ahh, so, this was it. Seattle Grace, at long last Alexei knew how it felt to work at this marvelous hospital. Really, it felt just about exactly the same as it did working at the last hospital that had hired him except for the fact that now he had more experience, better English, and a relative working for the very same hospital. Actually, Dimitri was the very reason he had sought a job at Seattle Grace, to begin with. Having finally procured the position of ambulance driver, he had come to work a full day early to finally face his nephew and explain why he hadn't called him for a matter of months.
The only problem was, of course, finding him in a building with an overall unfamiliar layout. Standing in the waiting room, the Russian looked around for someone who could be of assistance, when at the same time, couldn't possibly be distracted from their job by directing him to Dimitri. A smile crossed his face when he spotted a doctor over by the snack machines. Perfect. With striding steps, he approached the man.
"Hello!" He started off introductions just as Dr. Crane had turned to find himself standing face to face with a grinning EMT. "I am new to Hospital and am lookink for my nephew! You are tell he vhere to find him, yes?"

Mike smiled as he turned around and saw the EMT speaking to him. He lowered his drink, offering out his other hand to shake as he heard the man say he was new to the hospital. "Well welcome to Seattle Grace. I'm Dr. Crane, but you can call me Mike if you want" He offered in his introduction.
He heard the man ask for his nephew. He wondered if maybe the boy was sick. He was immediately worried for a moment that he should not have been so happy in his introduction if this was a worried family member and not just a new colleague, but he quickly stopped worrying seeing the grin on the other man's face.
"Sure I can try to help you find him, is he a patient? Or maybe visiting one?" Dr. Crane asked, assuming it was a young child.

With the offer of a handshake, Alexei wholeheartedly accepted, taking Dr. Crane's hand in his own and shook it up and down, near to the point of exaggeration. The welcome made him feel very welcome, indeed, and managed to uplift the man's already soaring spirit. Given, it took little to lift Alexei Karloff's spirits and a shockingly unpleasant situation to dampen them. Given, again, that anything he encountered in his field of experience, such as rushing burn victims, victims of crime, victims of motor vehicle incidents, victims of circumstance, and victims otherwise to a hospital after providing on the scene treatment hardly ever served to take away from his perpetual sense of euphoria. More often than not, helping people was just yet another excuse for him to smile.
"Patient? Ay, nyet. My nephew, he is staff member." The good doctor's simple and understandable mistake, like most things, managed to broaden the Russian's smile. Rather gladly, he made a further attempt to explain the circumstances to the helpful doctor. "Doctor Dimitri Karloff. I am Alexei Karloff, and Deema is the nephew of me!"

Dr. Crane was more than surprised to hear who the EMT's nephew was. Mike had met Dimitri before, he knew he wasnt a young man, certainly not a child. He wondered for a moment if the man, who was obviously a Russian as well, both from his accent and relation to the pathologist, if maybe he was getting his words mixed up. Maybe Alexei was actually Dimitri's nephew? But Mike knew it was possible he was the Uncle. Some families had the uncle younger than the nephew. It just wasnt something you initially thought of.
"Dr. Karloff is your nephew?" Mike said with surprise. " Yeah, I know where you can find him, unless you're supposed to meet him in a certain place?" He asked.

Just as understandable as the mistake of thinking Alexei's nephew was a child was the doctor's surprise at finding out otherwise. Such surprise, naturally, simply pleased the Russian. Moving to Seattle and procuring a job was a stunt to surprise Dimitri. If in doing this he was already surprising a man he had only just met it much have been a very good surprise. Now, if only he could get Dimitri to understand how wonderful surprises really are... Alexei's every hope was that this was the surprise that finally had Dimitri pleasantly surprised.
"Certain Place? Nyeeeeeet." He drew out the word as long as he could, shaking his head. "He is not knowink I am here. I am here for surprisink him!"

Mike hadnt been talking to Alexei for very long but he could already see some similarites between Dimitri and his uncle. One was the way he spoke, and it wasnt just the common accent either, but the way they seemed to enjoy their words, playing with them a bit (or maybe playing with him as they spoke). Another was their energy, both men just emmited energy that seemed to be contagious.
"That sounds like a great surprise. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you" Dr. Crane told the young EMT.
