George walked slowly, even though he just wanted to get this over with. He hated going to this particular place...he was a doctor because he wanted to help people, not because he wanted to identify dead bodies. He looked at the picture of the man in his hand once again, even though he had basically memorized his face (his way of stalling the inevitable). He would have argued a bit more, but Bailey had given him explicit orders and well...everyone knew better than to argue with Miranda Bailey; The Nazi.
At last; he was there. What seemed like a walk that took forever, had ended so soon. "Okay George...you can do this; take a deep breath. Just go in, and get it over with...your a doctor. Yes..you're a doctor and this is part of being a doctor. Damnit...no...you're just an intern...you shouldn't have to identify dead people." He spoke to himself when nervous, or rather mumbled to himself, and even though he did it to help himself calm down, it tended to produce the opposite affect.
He entered the room to see a man he had never met before, but had seen around. "Um...hi, I'm here to help identify a John Doe. Well, I mean...I have his picture...I'm not sure if its him. I guess thats where the help to identify part comes in." He paused, nervous to see the body. "He came down a few hours ago...died in a car accident."

Luckily for Georgie-Boy, Dr. Karloff had not been rummaging through the internal organs of any corpses the moment he walked in. All the corpse-rummaging had already been done hours ago, of course, as Dimitri liked to do that right away. He was like a kid at Christmas sometimes, that man. In the time since, the Coroner had stowed all the bodies away in the cold chamber, scrubbed the place up all nice, scrubbed himself up. . .a few times, and gotten things ready in anticipation of George's visit. Really, all that needed to be ready for George were a few sheets of paper and a cardboard toe-tag waiting to be written on and tied onto the body, but still, Dimitri had gotten this all ready.
In fact, when George came in, Dimitri had been playing tetris on his laptop, but the Intern's entry had distracted him and caused him to lose. In a steady voice, Dimitri asked "Is it possible to vin a game of Tetris? Not today, Mr. Brzustowski." - There was nobody by the name 'Brzustowski' in the area. It appeared that Dimitri was talking to himself. . . though his surname was Karloff.
Looking away from the computer and up at the Intern who he had never seen before, Dimitri stood and extended his hand for a handshake. "Hello. First thinks first - identify you. Who are you? I am Dr. Dimitri Karloff. Dimitri is fine, good, thank you. Who are you?"

George slowly approached the stranger (well semi-stranger) and looked down at his hand as he waiting for George to shake it. "I'm George...O'Malley...Docotor George O'Malley, or well...Dr George- I mean...Docotor O'Malley," he stuttered while shaking the mans hand. He hated this; he always rambled when meeting people for the first time. Maybe he was especially nervous this time because of where he was...and the fact that he was just waiting to see a dead body.
"Did I disturb you from your..." He nodded his head towards the laptop, since he heard him mutter something about it, and hoped he hadn't come at a bad time or anything. Whether he was doing work, or just passing the time, George wasn't sure. But if it was anything pressing, then he could always just come back.
"Its nice to meet you Doctor Karloff."

"Dr. George O'Malley, Dr. George O'Malley, Dr. George O'Malley," Dimitri said, wearing a friendly grin as he shook George's hand just a little too long. Dimitri had always believed that repeating something aloud three times would help him to remember it. Names were important things to remember! "Good to meet you!"
When George indicated the computer, Dr. Karloff slowly looked at it and then pulled his gaze quickly back to the Intern.
"Tetris," Dimitri said, finishing up where George had trailed off. "Do not vorry! Never mind! I vas only killink time for you to come anyvay! Cannot play Tetris forever. -- Very literally. Is impossible game to vin. A Ph.D. named John Brzustowski wrote lonk thesis about this. Very very interestink. -Anyvay! Vhat vere ve sayink? -Ah yes! You are here to identify body. Da? Yes? This is true?"

As the doctor repeated George's name several times, he wondered if he had some form of OCD, but his wonder was soon put at rest, since he just figured he was trying to remember it...or something. "Theres a thesis written on tetris?" He asked rather surprised that someone with a PhD would spend time writing about something like that. "Why is it impossible?" He was curious now. He had been a video game nerd when he was younger, and realized that never once had he been able to win in tetris...or well, at least beat the whole game.
When Dmitri said that he was here to identify the body, George shook his head and remember his initial purpose for being here, so cleared his mind of all curiousities about the inability to win in tetris. Why would they make a game if no one could win?
"Yeah. He um," he held out the picture to Dmitri. "Thats what he looks like. Any ideas where he is? Well, I mean..I know he's obviously here...but...where? I just need to confirm that its this guy, so that his family can take him home. I mean...work on funeral arragements, since I don't think they want to take a dead body home...but they would want it to..." He paused, hating the way he rambled, but proud of himself to be able to just stop talking...although this only worked sometimes.

When George asked him why it was impossible to beat Tetris, a broad smile spread across Dimitri's face. There was nothing he enjoyed more than teaching things to other people, even things as trivial as John Brzustowski's thesis on Tetris. (Alright, maybe Dimitri liked cutting apart dead people a little bit more than he liked explaining and educating, but they ranked very close in the Russian's head among the things he most enjoyed.) Knowing they probably did not have forever and a day to discuss this topic, Dimitri decided to be as succinct as possible in his explanation for George.
"Is impossible because after each level, speed of game increases and eventually, speed vill become faster than human reflex. --This, and also, if somehow played lonk enough, downvard speed of tetrominos vill become faster than speed at vhich you can move piece from side to side. . . So is not possible to control vhere it lands," Dimitri said proudly. Hopefully he had not lost George. If he had, then perhaps they would have time for Dr. Karloff to draw up a chart or something later to help explain what he was talking about.
As George began to talk about identification of bodies, Dimitri could see that the fellow was nervous. Patting Dr. O'Malley on the shoulder, the Russian glanced at the photograph and nodded, "Yes, yes. I know vhere he is. Ve go to see him, okay? -- You are nervous? Vhy? He is dead. He cannot hurt you. Zombies are pretend. In all my many years of vork, I never have vonce seen zombie. Okay, you come now?"

George listened intently to his explanation as to why it was impossible to win tetris. It seemed a little ridiculous to play a game for so long, when there was no hope of winning...what a waste of time! Then again, what video game was a good use of one's time? None really...they were solely for enjoyment and countless hours of entertainment. If it were up to George (if he had time) he would play them so much more. Sadly enough, he didn't think he would ever be too old for video games.
"Wow! That's really interesting!" he said, genuinely interested in the subject. "It makes sense when you put it that way...but I guess you don't really think about it when your playing; all you can think about is how much you want to win. It seems funny, that games are created that are impossible to beat," he said, speaking aloud his thoughts.
When Dmitri asked why George was scared, he thought it was a little funny that he thought he was scared because the man (who was dead) was going to hurt him. George gave a small, nervous chuckle, finding that reason rather amusing, but not wanting to laugh at such a morbid joke. "That’s...that's not why I'm nervous. It's the fact that he's dead that’s making me nervous...I'm not afraid that he's going to hurt me. I just...I don't like dead bodies." He also thought the zombie comment was amusing, but again, he wasn't going to laugh. "Uh...its good you haven't seen any zombies...neither have I..."

Dimitri was not only a fan of Tetris because it was invented by a Russian, but also because it was a game that improved motor-skills and created neurological pathways in the brain. In essence - it made a person slightly smarter and faster (in a very narrow way.) That is. . .if a person did not become addicted to video-games and play them more often than was healthy. Of course, Dimitri spent far too much time doing his actual job to be spending too much time on tetrominoes.
"Tetris," Dimitri spoke, "is a very old game as far as video games go. I find it funny that people become preoccupied vith the fact that it is a game vith no possibility of beink beaten. If this vas truly as troublesome as ve think it is -- then tetris vould ne novhere near as popular as it is today. You know?"
"That is good because zombies are pretend and if you did see vone, this vould probably mean you have hallucinations," Dimitri put his hand on George's back and gave him a small, leading shove in the direction of the freezer-lockers. "Many people do not like dead bodies. This is not unusual. Come, ve do this fast. Get it over vith. Okay?"

"Yeah...I guess," George said thinking about the complexity of such a simple game. "I didn't know that it was impossible to beat though...guess you learn something new every day!" George would have loved to continue their conversation about video games, if wasn't for the fact that they were in the morgue and he was here to identify a dead body. Who would have thought such a topic could be discussed in such a depressing place.
He lightly chuckled when Dmitri said it was a good thing he didn't see zombies. "Yup! Probably from watching too many horror movies or something...but I don't see any of that, so I guess I don't need to go to the psychiatric ward or anything," he joked. George felt his body freeze, not wanting to see what he knew he had to. "Uh...how about I just hand you the picture, and you tell me if its the same guy..." George was not known for his bravery. He had seen dead bodies before, but in the surgery room...not pale, with a tag on their toe.
