Kal entered Emerald City Bar, the closest one he could find after his long day of work. It was close indeed, it was right across from the hospital. He took a seat on the stool, ordering a beer. He wanted to have some fun tonight...maybe meet some people, possibly get drunk, and just unwind. Work was harder than he thought, something that was to be expected, but he wished that it got easier after all those long days of studying and taking exams. It seemed to just be getting harder. Did it ever get easy?
"Thanks," he said to the bartender when the beer was placed in front of him. He took a sip, looking around at the crowd and saw how familiar some of them looked. He had seen them working at the hospital, which was no surprise since, as previously established, the bar was close to SGH. But it still seemed weird to see all the people he worked with outside of work. He looked forward once again, staring at his beverage and refused to let the sleep that threatened to consume him, prevent him from partying tonight.[tag Julie ]

Chase had just finished up a rough shift at the hospital. 3 of his patients had died on him today. He knew that working the ICU and the on the critical care surgeries he was more likely to have the patients who weren't going to survive. He was working on the ones who were barely hanging on by the time they got to him. But that didnt make it any easier to deal with patients dying. And after all these years, a residency, and 2 fellowships, Chase still found himself wondering what he could have done differently after each one.
He made his way into the bar across the street, glad to be off for the night. He walked up to the bar greeting Joe the bartender before ordering his beer, leaning against the countertop before turning around to see who else was in here while he waited for his drink.

Kal suddenly saw a man enter, and noticed he looked a little familiar (as did everyone else in the bar). He was definitely one of the doctors, but he didn't know his name. Maybe he could get on his good side, maybe that would come to his advantage some day. "Hey, you work as one of the doctors at the hospital, right?" He asked, knowing the answer, but just wanted to look somewhat polite.
"My name is Kal," he introduced extending his hand. "Kal Modi, but Kal is fine." He felt his whole name was too much of a mouthful. There were too many syllables. Why didn't his parents just name him Kal? It would have been SO much easier without that 'penn' part at the end.

"Robert Chase" Chase introduced himself, shaking the other man's hand. Unlike Kal he didnt give a preference for what he wanted to be called. Most people called him Chase, leaving off the doctor part if they knew him well, but he wouldnt be opposed to being called by his first name either so he figured whatever other people felt comfortable calling him would be fine.
"Yeah I am, do you work there as well?" Chase asked before explaining what he did there. If this was just a family member of a patient who recognized him they probably wouldnt understand what a cardiac intensivist was (and he didnt think they'd care for him to explain).

"Its nice to meet you Doctor," he said politely. Maybe he really would get some good cases. When asked if he worked there, maybe he could have some fun with this. He tried to think of something creative, but wondered if he really wanted to get on the bad side of this man. He was trying to get on his good side to get good cases...and perhaps be there in case he needed help with something...Kal was torn.
"Yeah I do," he told him casually, taking a sip from his beer. "I'm the janitor," he said kiddingly, not sure if Chase would believe him or not, but if he didn't...then Kal would just tell him what he really did. If he did believe him, Kal was afraid that he would end up encouraging the joke.

Chase smiled politely as the other man explained he was a janitor. He was surprised that the man didnt really look familar, and felt a little guilty for not having known him, but it was a big hospital. "Oh yeah? Have you been working there long? I dont remember seeing you around before" Chase admitted to him. Though if the other man knew he was a doctor, maybe the janitor had seen him enough to recognize him, in which case Chase would feel bad for not being more observant.

Kal listened to his question and though it would be am-musing if he just continued to tell him that he was a janitor. Could he get in trouble? Would this doctor despise him? It was just a joke...Kal needed some am-musement in his life. Everything had been work work work, he needed some time for fun. "Feels longer than its actually been. Wiping up crap from the ground isn't the most exciting job, so feels like years...I've only been there for a few months though." He was holding back a bit of laughter when Chase told him he hadn't seen him around before. "You new too then? Cause I've been there for a few months now..."

Chase smiled understanding listening as the man told him that he was new there but that it seemed like years because of the work he was doing. "Understandable. Well welcome to seattle grace...maybe you can get transferred to a different department if you're not happy where you are" He suggested. There were usually administrative jobs available, maye receptionist or something. "I've been working here awhile, been here since residency"
