It was yet another long night of work at Seattle Grace Hospital. Dimitri had been running some Cytopathological examinations down in his lab, when he realized that he had not stopped for a break in several hours. What's more, he hadn't eaten since breakfast. Now, it wasn't the fact that Dr. Karloff worked in the morgue that was his reasoning for not eating, for he did not experience loss of appetite at all in his line of work. Rather, he had simply been too busy to realize how much time had gone by. Time flies when you're having fun, after all. . .or however that old cliché goes. And so, Dimitri took a trip up to the hospital cafeteria to get a meal before going back to finish up his work for the night. After obtaining a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich, a banana, peach yogurt, a random salad, strawberry milk, and a cup of coffee (he was a little hungry), it was time to obtain a table at which to sit. He almost took a chair at an empty table, but then spotted one Dr. Imogen Schneider sitting alone at a table of her own. How rude would it be to let a woman eat by herself? Without asking, he took the seat across from the woman and asked "Lonk night?" [[ooc. Tag- Jet! Don't mind the title, there's no romance going on! (Imogen's married, after all!) --Uh. . .and I hope you can read that 'accent' I try to write in. ]]

Imogen sat in the cafeteria, she was grabbing small bits of food between reading a text book. A patient had come into the ER earlier with a very interesting case that Imogen had never seen before. She rubbed at the bridge of her nose with her thumb and fore finger, she was only half way through her shift and it had been pretty busy so far.
"Long night" she heard a voice say in a thick accent.
Imogen looked up and smiled a small tired smile at Dimitri standing opposite her. "A very busy one" she replied "Please join me" he said pointing to the chair opposite.

Happily, Dimitri put his nearly-overloaded tray on the table and pulled out the chair, taking a seat across from Imogen. As she spoke, he hummed an affirmative sort of noise, nodded, and poured some of his strawberry milk into his coffee. Once finished pouring, the Coroner's eyes raised to look at Imogen once more, as he stirred his beverage. Absent-mindedly, Dimitri wondered if Dr. Schneider had been working all day like himself, or if her shift was a later one.
Seeing that she had a book, Dr. Karloff pointed with the spoon he had been using to stir his coffee and said "Oh, oh! I see you read. Vhat book is it?" A person's favorite book could tell a lot about them, Dimitri thought. Of course, he wasn't sure if this was one of Imogen's favorites, but it was still a topic of interest.

Imogen raised an eyebrow as he poured his flavoured milk into his coffee. An interesting quirk, she thought. She looked down at her book again momentarily to take note of what page she was on then looked back up at Dimitri.
Keeping her finger in the page she closed the book and showed him, it was a medical journal on skin diseases. She opened to book back up to her page and placed it on the table in front of her.
"I had a patient come into the ER with an interesting skin rash, shivering and talking gibberish, I was just wondering what the cause could be as I have never seen anything like it" she said.

Dimitri listened eagerly as Imogen explained her book and reasons for reading it. However, he did not seem to notice her raised eyebrow, or if he did, he did not react to it in any way. Then again, perhaps Dimitri was used to people raising their eyebrows at him. Dimitri began to cut his sandwich into fourths with his plastic eating utensils, but looked up to see the cover of the book, pressing his eyebrows together as if he were questioning something.
"Skin rash, shiverink and talkink gibberish," Dimitri repeated. "Very odd. Maybe . . . symptoms are not related. Maybe patient has stroke and also poison ivy." Dimitri shrugged. It wasn't any of his business, really, as it wasn't his patient (luckily for the patient, as most who came to see Dimitri were already dead.)
"You have any ideas of vhat it could be? Friends and family give any clues?" Dimitri asked, peeling his banana and chopping it into bite-sized pieces as well.

Imogen had to admit, she hadn't thought of the symptoms being unrelated, she was actually surprised she hadn't thought of it.
Imogen looked down sadly and shook her head at his question about family.
"No he was a homeless guy the police found" she replied. "No ID so we don't even know his name and of course he can't tell us"

Dimitri made a 'hmm' noise when Imogen said that the patient was homeless and had no friends or family to give the medical staff clues. Though he was not about to mention it out loud, the Russian wondered if this patient was one that he was going to see in the morgue soon. Of course, Dimitri did not welcome or encourage death and he certainly hoped for the best. However, the condition sounded very strange and possibly deadly.
"That is too bad," Dimitri replied, taking a moment to eat a piece of banana, but making sure to swallow it and wash it down with a bit of coffee before he continued speaking. "You know, I am almost thinkink that the symptoms sound like lead poisonink. Of course, this is probably unlikely. --I should come take tissue sample. See if laboratory study vill tell you anythink."

Imogen nodded her head lead poisoning was some she had considered, but ruled out due to the fact he didn't have the tell tale sign of white lines on his fingertips, normaly associated with lead poisoning. She wondered if he was on to something though, maybe not lead poisoning but some other form of poison. Imogen wondered if she should contact the police who bought him in and ask about where they found him, maybe something in the area he had been staying might help shed some light on this patient.
She raised an eyebrow when Dimitri offered to take a tissue sample, that sounded like a good idea to her and she thought it would give her a good place to start.
"Would you?" she asked "I would really appreciate that" she smiled gently.

Dimitri was rather pleased by the fact that Imogen wanted his help. Many physicians were very possessive over their patients and did not like to listen to advice from other doctors (but obviously, not all doctors were this way.) Munching on a bit of lettuce and banana both at once, Dimitri was sure to carefully chew and swallow before he spoke again. He did not want to get food all over his co-worker, after all. That would be horribly insanitary.
Yet again, Imogen raised an eyebrow. Dimitri was still, thinking that perhaps this was a bad reaction, but then relaxed when it appeared that the offer to collect tissue samples had intrigued the Doctor rather than upset her. Grinning and nodding, the Russian responded, "Da. Of course! Is my job, after all. I vould be happy to do it. -- I can do this tonight if you like. Eh-- after dinner, of course."
He raised his eyebrows along with his cup of coffee, as if making a silent toast.

"Really" Imogen paused as she was about to put a forkful of food into her mouth. "That would be great" hopefully she could get this guy out of here tonight, she would call a shelter and see if they had a bed for him. She didn't want him to go back on the street. They were pretty busy and needed every bed available that they could get. "After dinner of course" she said with a smile.

"Yes, of course," Dimitri replied with a grin. It was a very good thing that Imogen was not the kind of person who was overly possessive of her patients. She was willing to get help when it was offered and not wait until she thought she 'needed' it. It was evident that Imogen was not a woman with a hefty ego.
This is when Dr. Karloff realized that there was something that he did not yet know about his newfound friend - something rather important that he had forgotten to ask right away. "Oh, I am Dr. Dimitri Karloff. Who are you? I forget to ask of your name earlier. So sorry! And vhere in hospital are you vorkink? --Eh. . . I am in morgue."

Imogen was glad he was obliging and said yes, any light he could shed on this mysterious patient would help her and she never turned away help when it was offered. She nodded then shoved another forkful of food in her mouth.
Imogen swallowed he mouthful of food then laughed lightly, when Dimitri introduced himself. She knew of Dimitri but she had never had the chance to speak to him though. She knew who he was the moment he sat down because of hsi strong accent.
"It's good to finally meet you, I am Dr Imogen Schneider, I am in the ER" she said with a soft chuckle. Imogen had found that some of the doctors from other departments could be full of their own self worth and not quick to talk to a doctor from the ER. ER was basically seen as garbage detail sometimes and Imogen hated that people thought of it that way, when she considered what she did important.

Dimitri was only vaguely aware that people knew about him before meeting him. Of course, he had always been the kind of person that other people talked about, but since working at Seattle Grace, he had gained all new reasons for people to talk about him. Being the only currently-working coroner was certainly a pretty good reason. When Imogen replied the way she did, Dr. Karloff realized that she already knew who he was without his introducing himself. It made him feel a little silly, but Dimitri often felt silly and so he wasn't greatly bothered by it.
"It is very good to meet you, Dr. Imogen Schneider, Dr. Imogen Schneider, Dr. Imogen Schneider." Dimitri always repeated names three times when he met people, in hopes that the repetition would aid him in remembering the names. "ER, you say? Very hard vork. Very fast pace. Much too nervous for me, I think."

Imogen raised an eyebrow amused at him repeating her name. She had never heard anyone do that before. Most people forgot her name moments after meeting her.
"Yes the ER is a hard place to work, but it has it's rewards I suppose" she explained, glad that he wasn't being negative like the other doctors. Most of the other doctors screwed up their nose at the ER docs, calling them adreniline junkies because of the constant action or calling them the hospital paramedics because they basically stitched up the patient until a 'real' doctor could fix up the patient properly.

Dimitri sometimes sounded like a broken record due to repeating things aloud. Though, most of his company happened to be dead and so it didn't really matter what Dr. Karloff said often-times.
A Coroner had no reason to screw up his nose at the idea of the ER. After all, there were those that would argue that Dimitri's job was pointless, as most of his work involved cutting apart the deceased. Of course, Dr. Karloff was also a skilled pathological surgeon, but this was a skill that was used a lot less-often. "Yes, very very revardink to see immediate result of helpink people, I think. -- You are also kind of person who likes roller-coasters, I imagine?"
